Morning Falls was inspired by a waterfall and pavilion I encountered while traveling near Mungyeong, a mountainous region in central South Korea known for its quiet natural landscapes.
During the visit, I was drawn to the way the small pavilion overlooked the cascading water below. The structure sits peacefully within the surrounding cliffs and trees, creating a scene that feels both dramatic and serene.
While the landscape itself is based on a real location, I allowed myself a degree of artistic interpretation within the composition. The irises in the foreground were added intentionally to introduce a strong floral element and to bring a sense of color and movement into the lower portion of the painting. Their deep blue tones echo throughout the sky and water, helping to unify the palette across the scene.
Painted in expressive, layered brushstrokes, the landscape emphasizes atmosphere and movement; the swirling sky, flowing water, and vibrant foliage working together to create a sense of energy within the natural environment.
Morning Falls reflects the experience of encountering a quiet place in nature and translating that moment into color, texture, and rhythm on the canvas.
