Joyful Stroll continues my exploration of square-format compositions and expressive color. Like other works in this series, the painting embraces bold brushwork and a vibrant palette to capture a moment of atmosphere rather than a precise recording of a scene.
The composition depicts a woman walking through the palace grounds in a flowing hanbok, holding a parasol as she moves along a sunlit path. Today, many visitors to Korea’s historic palaces rent traditional clothing for the day, transforming a simple visit into a playful and memorable experience. The painting reflects that familiar and joyful atmosphere.
Rather than focusing on fine details, I intentionally allowed areas of the painting to remain open and suggestive. Soft edges and visible brushstrokes encourage the viewer to complete the scene in their imagination, allowing the image to feel more like a memory than a fixed moment in time.
The palette emphasizes warmth and optimism. Bright yellows and warm greens evoke sunlight and the energy of a clear day, while the scattered colors across the ground create a lively rhythm throughout the composition. Together, these elements express the carefree feeling of wandering through the palace gardens, an experience that many visitors share.
