Among the Anemones
Oil on canvas, 50 × 50 cm
2026
Framed in a natural wood floater frame
Inspired by a spring visit to Jeju Island, Among the Anemones captures a fleeting moment of beauty outside a temple garden. A solitary figure in hanbok walks through a sea of vibrant flowers beneath cascading branches, their silhouettes weaving intricate patterns against the bright sky above.
In this painting, I was drawn to the contrast between the enveloping canopy overhead and the luminous field of blossoms below. Rather than documenting a specific place, I wanted to create the feeling of being completely immersed in spring, a moment when color, light, and nature seem to surround you from every direction.
My work is rooted in the idea that paintings can communicate something beyond what a photograph or a screen can capture. Through expressive brushwork, visible texture, and layered color, I aim to convey not only the appearance of a place but also its atmosphere and emotional resonance. The sweeping movement of the sky and the energetic surface of the paint reflect the transient nature of the experience itself: a brief, beautiful moment that cannot be held still.
Among the Anemones invites the viewer to step into that memory and linger there a little longer.
